Comment: by reading the description about Nick Yulman at archive.org one could admit the resident from Brooklyn, NY, USA is a busy, versatile and requested musician. He has been involved in many projects with purpose to cover different events with soundscapes. Surely, by listening to this 11-track issue one there have been mapped out different hotspots in indie/alternative/art pop/music. Musically it does mean electronic instruments are tightly mixed up with acoustic ones though the whole rings in an airy and subtle way giving no heck to any of these vignettes and fragments represented over there. More profoundly, you can see paths coming out of art houses and bedrooms to climb up to small independent studios and venues where primitive toy-alike instruments are given the same aesthetical extent in comparison to more accomplished guitar rock driven and Americana laden progressions. Even more could be pulled out of it – at times Yulman`s music chimes in a truly farcical way where funny music hall/vaudeville/burlesque elements are seamlessly added to the mix. In truth, Twitches is heavily loaded with stylistic turns and innovative explorations, however, resulting craftily in an emotive way. Although the music lovers could discern certain similarities with other musicians (for instance, Dan Deacon, Stereolab, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, Grizzly Bear, Mount Eerie, Dirty Projectors) it is an idiosyncratic outing because having no spot on certain elements for longer time. These snippets are just transient instruments to conjure up his extravagant world. The issue involves some songs which should have reached the top of Billboard (Bermuda, I Don`t Design). The album should be considered as one of the classic albums regarding the New Weird America scene. All the relevant aspects are represented over there - it is musically poignant, emotionally overwhelming, conceptually innovative. Top notch.

Jonathon Roberts & Scott Hawlay – Prayer (2004)

Comment: there is not much to know about this 3-track composition but it was the first issue in the discography of Luv Sound. One cannot find out even the release date of the album because it lacks this kind of information at the file/release information and at Discogs. Furthermore, I still do know nothing about Scott Hawlay and what he has produced so far. However, I guess the issue had been released sometime in 2004 while the imprint started to work. Jonathon Roberts is a contemporary composer of having obviously classical music background. The title track deserves its name where prayer-alike singing with extended chords and glistening points is accompanied by droning cello and cathedral organ-alike reflections eventually resulting in the epic peak. The next piece is Prayer: Mom and Pop (remix by the Eviscerator Reanimator) is a stoned deconstruction of the first one. It is filled with crackling noises and wobbling sonic waves to be the ambiance for a bleak sonic glimpse coming out of it. The last piece is the instrumental version of Prayer. In a word, the result is enchanting in its dark and white shadow play.

Comment: The Berliner Stephan Leonard has released his music on tapes, Mp3s and CDr-s since the first half of 00s, and got involved in such collectives as JuliJuni, Leo Mars, and Plastic Doll. However, this one-track issue recorded in his Brooklyn apartment represents an experimental approach where burning microtonal progressions and skrees are accomplished with the organic minutiae of musique concrète, bare glitches and noisy blow-ups. Very interesting.

Comment: Oh, this is simply mesmerizing. Although consisting only of a short-running track, however, it carries out an impressive dash upon the centre of your cognitive mind. The sound is conjured up with a cello and elaborated-amplified via electronic devices. All in all, it rings out like an irresistible alloy of (neo)classicism and hauntingly pounding ambient.

Comment: This is a single by the Oslo resident Rudi Simmons. It rings out vastly foggy, restrainted and wraith-like. Moreover, it is hardly audible. This is like a lone stake standing on the crossroad of ambient, chamber music, experimental electronica, and sound-art. It must be listened to loads of times to get a intuition and possible intention below it.

[Vana ning oluline] The Oo-Ray Magnifications (Luv Sound)


Portland`ist pärit Teb Zaberas aka Roshi on enda kodulehekülje alatiitliks pannud "shoegaze-tšellisti seiklused". Tõepoolest, see ütleb tema suundumuste kohta sisuliselt kõik. Mänginud eelnevalt viis aastat electro-duos Ainu, otsustas jänki oma suundumusi kardinaalselt muuta - ajendiks kinnisideelisus My Bloody Valentine`i tähisalbumist "Loveless". Õppis 3 aastat tšellot, et omi obsessioone selle ja elektroonika abil maandada. Lisaks on tal ka elektrooniline kingapõrnitsemisprojekt miniwave kahasse Laird`iga.

8-looline üllitis on täidetud sügavate ambient`i ja shoegaze`i seguste struktuuridega. Tõepoolest, kui võrrelda seda mõne kitarripõhise ambient-projektiga (Flying Saucer Attack; A Beautiful Machine; Clear Horizon; Windy & Carl), siis tegelikult ju vahet ei ole, kas see baseerub ühel või teisel keelpillil. Elektroonika, konkreetsed helitehnilised võtted (distortion) ja helifiltrid on algoritmid, mis kõlapildi sagedustele piirid annavad ning tonaalsust determineerivad. Pikad drone`id, aeglaselt vahetuvad faasinihked, digitaalsed heliseinte kahinad. Hoolimata ühe pilli fetišist kasutab ta ilmselt ka kitarre ning süntesaatoreid. Kaks lugu on ka live`is salvestatud, misjärel võib üksnes õhata, et ei ole ameeriklast otse mängimas näinud. Tulemus on eepiline, eeterlik ning meisterlik. Võimas töö aastast 2009.
